About The Artwork
Sati is a procession of women setting themselves on fire during the husband's cremation ceremony which is practiced in Hindu culture. Sati is a form of self-sacrifice as a form of loyalty and devotion. 25 days after Prabu Tawang Alun King from the Macan Putih kingdom in Banyuwangi died, on October 13, 1691, a cremation ceremony was held accompanied by a Sati procession. Followed by 270 wives out of 400 of all Tawang Alun's wives by throwing themselves into fire during the cremation process.
