“Art is a rebellion against a hostile and meaningless universe.” Jane Ianniello is an Australian painter whose work explores psychological experience, memory, fear, and the narratives through which individuals construct meaning and identity. Working primarily in acrylic, she creates highly theatrical figurative paintings that draw on personal experience, dreams, mythology, literature, and collective cultural memory. While her earlier work referenced the visual language of mid-twentieth-century pulp fiction and popular culture, her recent practice has evolved towards more psychologically complex and autobiographical subject matter. Her paintings often inhabit the space between reality and imagination, where ordinary experience becomes charged with symbolism, ambiguity, and emotional intensity. Recurring themes in Ianniello's work include childhood memory, existential anxiety, vulnerability, transformation, and the enduring influence of formative experiences. She is particularly interested in how fear, imagination, and personal mythology shape human perception and identity. Through the use of surreal imagery, dramatic lighting, and narrative tension, she constructs works that invite viewers to engage with both personal and universal psychological experiences. Working primarily with acrylic paints and mediums, Ianniello occasionally incorporates subtle iridescent and interference pigments to heighten atmosphere and emotional resonance. Each painting develops through an extended process of conceptual research, composition, and refinement, resulting in carefully constructed visual narratives that reward sustained viewing. Over the past decade, Ianniello has sold hundreds of paintings internationally, been selected as a finalist in numerous art awards, and exhibited throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Her works are held in private collections worldwide.
