- Inspiration for this painting derives from our local gulls and from a flock of gulls near the sea at Padstow, Cornwall. - Our local inland colonies of Gulls are frequent visitors to our front garden, here they tend to dive down to snatch the larger pieces of food, for example, kitchen scraps or left over bread. - These birds increasingly use inland areas for breeding, feeding and roosting. Late in the evening, if it has been a beautiful sunny day, the low sunset shines on the white of the Seagull's backs as they make their way to the city rooftops to roost for the night. - Any time of the year we see the Gulls scavenging across farmland, however when harvesting begins in earnest in August one can hear and see the Gull's in full force. As they follow the tractors when the farmers begin ploughing, combining, mowing and tedding the land. When they are feeding, they tend to become quite aggressive and large groups will squabble over the available food, usually this squabble is accompanied with a high-level of noise. - While we were on holiday in Cornwall, we were pleased to get a close up view, of about two to three feet away, of a Seagull. This is the inspiration for this particular setting of a Gull perched on the top of the cliff, with the sea in the background. We were walking along the coast on a sea view walk towards Padstow, when we saw this lovely Gull just sat there looking curious, but then a little perturbed that we did not have any food for it. - Seagull is made with Winsor and Newton watercolour and gouache paints on paper. - Framed Dimensions: W:48 x H:37 x D:2cm - Produced: June 2018 - Framed, all fixtures provided, ready to hang on your wall.

I studied English Literature BA (Hons) at university and I went on to do a Creative Writing course with the Open University. This led me to becoming a writer of children’s books, in particular I enjoy creating picture books. Gradually the picture became my focus and I started to create an Illustrator’s portfolio. The subject matter I work with varies from representing shape and form to intricate details. I am fascinated with nature and its’ various forms, whether it be wild animals, the wilderness, the weather or our pets. These themes compel me to create art. I have a love and deep respect for nature in all its forms, I hope these feelings permeate into the drawings via my brush or pencil. Illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Alexis Deacon and writers such as Thoreau, Wordsworth, William Blake and George MacDonald inspire my artwork.
