Gordon was born in 1956 in Inverness in the Scotland Highlands, a place greatly influenced by the surrounding topography, landscapes, as well as its history.
He currently divides his time between his studios in Edinburgh and Marrakech.
He was schooled at Inverness Royal Academy, and continued his education at Napier University in Edinburgh where he studied industrial design, combining the space of business with the psychology of art.
Gordon also has an extensive career in business consultancy, transforming organisations by looking at issues differently, then developing and implementing innovative and creative strategies. The parallel that runs through Gordon’s artwork is in looking at the world in different ways, exploring new ideas, materials, colours and other physical objects – experimenting and combining these elements and possibilities in different and exciting ways to ‘transform’ them and give them new meaning.
His artwork has been influenced by the places he has lived and worked in, from his early years in the Scottish highlands, throughout Europe, and latterly in Morocco. He is also drawn to the new worlds and imagery being opened up by science and technology, at both the macro and micro levels.
Gordon has sold to both private and corporate clients. He is represented internationally by the Agora Gallery in New York. He also works with leading UK art consultant Katherine Maginnis and international design houses to provide large scale works for prestigious residential developments.
Forthcoming events / exhibitions include a major solo exhibition at the Embassy Tea Gallery in London, the Agora Gallery in New York and a solo exhibition at one of Morocco’s new ‘hot-spots’, Essaouira.
What makes Gordon’s work stand out is that it is the result of (in some instances) years of development & gestation, combining contemporary ideas and themes with the use of contemporary materials to generate exciting new contemporary images. It draws on years of his own experiences and interests, as well as inputs from leading researchers in science and technology fields.
Gordon also relishes working on a large scale, where the sheer physicality in producing some of his larger pieces represents further sets of challenges.
