Edward Xu is a contemporary Chinese artist who once lived in the United States. He graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, where he received systematic training in Western theatrical arts. After graduation, he joined the Shanghai People's Art Theatre as an actor and participated in several plays. In 1992, he resigned and moved to New York. Everyone has the most important ten years in their life; 1992 to 2004 was the most important ten years for Edward Xu. At that time, he was young, full of energy, and had a strong thirst for knowledge. He often hung a camera around his neck, dressed like an artist, and wandered the streets of Manhattan. He started frequenting various galleries, immersing himself in contemporary art, and was a regular visitor to renowned art museums such as MoMA and the Guggenheim Museum. As Edward Xu closely followed the development of contemporary art over the years, his obsession with it grew deeper and deeper. In 2004, he returned to China and re-entered the entertainment industry, participating in films, TV dramas, and directing work. Edward Xu continued to shuttle between New York and Shanghai, engaging in intensive performance activities. However, in the winter of 2019, with a depression in entertainment industry, he found himself with more free time. He seized the opportunity, bought paints, canvases, and various tools, and turned his room into a creative space, beginning his artistic creations.
