ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"She Rises" is created with a gel medium and heavy bodied acrylics. I painted this primarily with palette knives which keeps the painting loose and free. I love dancing, all types of dance but ballet is so intriguing to me. You can feel the sense of power and control a dancer has over her body. I wanted this dancer to have a sense of calm while rising above the chaos. The painting is mostly monochromatic except for the bold strokes of red at the base and a few splashes of red throughout. Red, is passionate, strong, and sometimes uncontrolled. The use of red here, represents the chaos below her while she rises above with complete peace and control. I think we all long for that sense of peace in midst of chaos.
