Painting: Colour pencils, Graphite, acrylic on wood panel This series is a very personal journey into my own vulnerability. I started collecting and using shapes of Platanus bark, a tree that is found in the south of France but also here, in South east China. I always was fascinated by these shapes, and the tree is rejuvenating its protective layer by "rejecting" these pieces of bark. It reminded me how we are often trying to protect ourselves from hurt and pain, and how over time, we build our own layers of bark, a protective skin around our feelings, and vulnerability, and I decided to work on this for this series. The work on canvas and wood panel is made of layered bark shapes, using pencils and paint to create a sense of depth.
