ABOUT THE ARTWORK
With this painting, I wanted to investigate the in-between space of landscape/nature and dwelling/architecture. Using inspiration from the Stahl House in Los Angeles, I imaged this house alone on a hillside looking out on a vast deserted landscape.

I grew up in the American Southwest, exposed to desert landscapes and modern architecture. My father, a civil engineer, took me on tours of jails and prisons in my youth simultaneous to my religious, celestial grooming in enclosed institutions. This exposure to vast landscapes and constrained, invasive dwellings continues to shape my artistic career. I am intrigued by the contradiction of being in a place yet not being the place, that there is always a link and separation between structure and freedom.
