Aliyu Aminu Ahmed is a native of Yola Town in the Adamawa Emirate, Adamawa State, Northern Nigeria. From a young age, he has been deeply engaged in community development, working on projects that promote entrepreneurship among young people and community development. Since the 1990s, he has been an avid writer, publishing poems in local newspapers. His career spans multiple non-governmental organizations, where he has contributed to initiatives in health, women's rights, youth entrepreneurship, and community development. Having excelled in the NGO sector, he now offers consulting services from time to time. As an Abstract Artist, Modern, Neo-Expressionist, and Contemporary painter, Aliyu’s art is an exploration of texture, depth, and abstraction—where every stroke and layer tells a story. He primarily works with canvas and paper, using acrylics and mixed media to create compositions that transcend the visual, offering a tactile and emotional experience. Beyond traditional techniques, he experiments with various styles, blending elements to make each piece rare, uniquely familiar, yet strikingly outstanding. His work is deeply inspired by organic patterns in nature—weathered surfaces, shifting landscapes, and the quiet imperfections of the world. He reconstructs these elements into abstract compositions, layering textures that evoke both familiarity and mystery. Aliyu’s journey into abstract art began in his forties, inspired by his brothers, who frequently sketched but had yet to pursue painting professionally. Encouraging them to take their creativity further, he discovered his own passion for painting. Artistic expression runs in the family—his mother, now in her 80s, creates intricate calligraphy and abstract designs. This newfound artistic journey has become a shared family pursuit. To support emerging artists, Aliyu established Garga Art Galleries in Zaria. The gallery serves as a platform for young, talented artists while also showcasing his own work and that of his family, fostering a growing appreciation for contemporary and abstract art.
