Sleepy Sins of Suzy Spreadwell 6: Lake of Fire Painting

The idea behind my satirical character Suzy Spreadwell, from my comic of the same name, or one of the ideas, is to look at fundamentalist, deep-red state religion as we would a fetish. I find the model fits quite well. The premise of the series is that Suzy, just having reached adulthood, is having a great deal of trouble keeping to her Purity Pledge, and florid and often blasphemous fantasies start exploding through her head. This series of paintings arising from that is called "The Sleepy Sins of Suzy Spreadwell." In this, the sixth work in the series, Suzy fantasizes about the day when Satan is cast into the lake of fire, spoken of in Revelation. To right-wing Christians, there is no sexier book of the Bible as Revelations. The angel with his foot on Satan's neck is loosely based on Sir Jacob Epstein's sculpture "St. Michael's Victory Over the Devil' at Coventry Cathedral It's 10" x 13" on thick illustration board, and after working through the night on New Year's Eve it is my first work completed in 2019.
