About The Artwork
Soft Veils of Grey celebrates the allure of flowing paint and its playful interaction of light, dark and color. It is a minimal non-objective composition with organic vertical lines of warm and cool grey tones. The slight contrast of the darker veil against the light warm background adds a sense of drama. The intricate and repetitive patterns seem to elicit aesthetic feelings as if you were listening to quiet music or poetry. The image is wholly abstract yet resembles a natural phenomenon like reflections in a lake. or rain dribbling down a window. The paint flows over a texture made with silica sand and gesso causing diversions and rivulets to form. The repeating pattern varies as it traverses across the horizontal format creating a delicate veil that obscures the warm light in the background adding an element of depth and mystery. Nature continually presents me with soothing colours, exciting designs, delightful patterns, intriguing patinas and infinite space. Nature presents light, dark, shadows and movement which evoke emotions of mystery, wonder and love. My goal as a painter is to use nature’s abstract elements like colour and space to capture a particular feeling, a feeling of unity, passion or peacefulness. I strive to create painterly abstractions that mysteriously resonate with my deeper self and hopefully with the soul of the viewer. I believe art is a way to communicate one soul to another.
