Somerville Bridge is situated in the oldest village of Mount Desert on Mount Desert Island in southeastern Maine. As a European immigrant, painting this bridge was important to me because this village was established by the first European settler on the island named Abraham Somes. This similarities between this bridge and those found in the works Monet was an inspiration for this painting.
