About The Artwork

An expressive and dramatic mixed media depiction of a south coast housing estate, designed by Lyons Israel Ellis from 1969. These start life as my photographic work, collaged and manipulated on the computer, before they are scaled up for painting in the studio. These go through multiple redraws, colours are removed, washes added, then removed to highlight texture and structure. What you could be seeing is traces of pencil and pastel under oil paint, as I never know which medium will dominate when I start a new piece. My work has focused on architecture since foundation, and I explore the nature of place and space through various mediums, as I investigate our relationship, and interaction with the built environment.
