Art Description

Painting: Oil, Dirt, Burlap, Fabric, Pastel on Canvas.

This painting is part of a small series of work devoted to observing seasonal changes within nature. This work is inspired by the season of Spring. I understand and interpret this as a time of regeneration and rebirth, which is symbolized by the flowers and hands springing up from the Earth. The rich brown soil at the bottom of the painting is highly textured, and the paint is mixed with actual dirt to create a convincing illusion. Burlap is also integrated within the soil to enhance the texture. Sculptural chunks of oil paint are adhered to the canvas as loose impressions of flowers in contrast to the highly rendered flowers that surround them.
