About The Artwork

This work was inspired by beautiful late autumn sunlight on the trees in St Pancras Gardens in London, a quiet hidden garden next to the railways and yards of St Pancras and King's Cross. The church, the core of which date back to the 11th century or before, is hazily visible in the central panel of the three. For me it's a small oasis in the middle of the city. My initial sketches led to a palette and aesthetic which married the natural autumn colours with the idea of the churchyard depicted as if in the church's own stained glass windows. The work is in three panels, the dimensions quoted in the description are the physical dimensions if the panels are stacked tight together, though for display purposes it would obviously be better to allow space between the panels.

I live and work in London basing many of my works on sketches made around town, in pen or watercolour, then developed and often abstracted into the final paintings. Aside from the obvious urban architecture there is a surprising amount of green space and animal life in the city that provides a huge variety of subject matter.
