As a New Yorker residence, art to me has been a vital part of my life. Even as a young child of three years old, I was introduced to art while watching my mom an amateur artist who worked in mostly pencil and charcoal drawings. After that introduction, I was presented with my very own drawing book and a bunch of crayons. Somehow I would manage to get into mom’s arsenals of supplies and retrieved one of those fine pencils. It was truly love at first sight. Years later, I studied at MaryMount Manhattan College and The Art Student League. I was like a sponge and was willing to try new experiences; I had a passion for horses. I was so serious about it, that I went to a school in the evenings to learn to care and train them. My first meeting with a horse was incredible, but I very scared at first. Can you imagine a city girl whose never seen a real horse other than in a book is actually in a stall with one?? Yeah!! I got over the fear, and soon it became my first love. I landed a job at the New York Racing Association as a groom, boy it was great to know that I had my very own horse anatomy class up close. I had the opportunity to feel the way muscles are shaped, their symmetry of contour, the horse’s personality and kinetics. At the time that I worked there, I received some commissions for horse paintings from owners and jockeys. As the horse period was ending I felt for the need to experience my full potential to use my skills in doing murals and soon after landed a job work for a prominent antique fine furnishing store. Their art department specialized on customized services to clients and business such as Disney, Brooks Brothers, ESPN sports,GANT.. There is where I got the most experience and met interesting people. My current works are paintings in acrylics. The choice of using fibers as an undercoating to build a base to apply my designs on fascinated me. Their delicate shimmer and unusual shapes was interesting to see when it was done. Through the uses these colors and textures, I named this piece, “Strange fruit” I wanted to express that place of a peaceful time where you can visually visit and reflect. All of my paintings that I am showing here holds a special place for me. The most intriguing one, entitled “Flortilia” is a painting, that somewhat painted itself I was guided by its need to come alive. It expresses the full bloom of early spring blossom. The rich colors and shapes breaths the sensuality of femininity.
