About The Artwork
This work was painted after Lacuna as a sort of counterpoint to it. While Lacuna suggests empty space this work suggests the many stratums that exist in space and the atmosphere. Many of them we cannot see but they have an impact on air quality, the fertility of the earth and on out health. While when we look out on a soothing landscape so quite and still, there is actually a lot going on that we do not see. The shapes which evolved in the work are not recognisable because they are continuously changing. The lower section suggests the erosion of an earthily plain. This work is one of a number of works which are influenced by interest in the debate surrounding climate change.

My introduction to film making was through the director Peter Watkins for whom I worked as a student on the films Culloden and The War Game. My introduction to writing was through BBC, The Guardian and The Irish Times. My introduction to sculpture was through Eric Schilsky in Edinburgh and to painting through Mark Ainsworth at Belfast College of Art.
