My Grandmother kept a drawer in her kitchen full of bits of string and used wrapping paper. I once asked her what use such short pieces of string were, and she told me "waste not, want not." The habit became my own, and I still save things that might be useful some day, although not pieces of string. String Theory is a tribute to my thrifty Grandmother and her theory that everything might be useful. Each panel has a mottled sage green surface with raised silver string lines and a single raised spot. The set of nine panels can be hung in a three by three grid or any configuration you choose. Acrylic, oil paint and cotton string on nine 1 5/8" cradled birch panels. Background and string continues over sides of panels. Each panel 12" x 12" (30 cm x 30 cm) Set of nine panels hung as a square is 40" x 40" (102 cm x 102 cm) Unframed cradled panels, ready to hang.

“Painting is my lifelong passion. After a childhood filled with art and nine years as a fashion designer, I began studying traditional oil painting in the early 1990’s. I’ve been highly successful as a portrait, wildlife and western artist in the USA and Australia. I’ve pushed the boundaries of realism a bit and diversified my subjects over the years, but mostly stayed in the traditional realism box. I still love to paint the realism subjects I'm most known for. However, in the past few years I’ve found myself at a point in life where I have more to say than can be expressed through realism alone. Life events, losses and discoveries have all contributed to the thoughts that I want to express through my paintings. I’ve been flirting with ideas of abstraction for years, and at last I’ve found the courage to break out of that realism box and explore modern artistic concepts. After a lot of experimenting to discover what Krystii Melaine Modern looks like, a new collection of quietly elegant abstract works is emerging. They incorporate textures, metallic paint, beads, organic forms, lines and stories. I’m expressing my thoughts about life in all its aspects, and these new works will continue to evolve as I do. There are no boundaries. At last I’ve given myself permission to express myself in any way I like. The only rule is it must look fabulous. Come with me on this visual and emotional adventure!” Krystii is a Master Signature Member of the American Women Artists, and a member of the Portrait Society of America. * 26 paintings in museum collections in the USA and Australia. * More than 40 major awards. * Participated in more than 110 museum exhibitions in over 23 different museums. * 30 magazine articles, and appears in four books. * Millions of dollars’ worth of art sold to collectors around the world.
