Sunrise through the morning mist, high summer Painting

This dynamic, colourful, bold, fresh seascape abstraction is full of colour, life, energy, and it expresses the elemental forces at play in the marshes. It also has a contemplative element to the composition, that was deliberate. It is based around a number of research trips I did to the Essex mudflats in England in 2019. The piece was created for a Solo Show in the summer of 2019 for Mersea Barn Gallery and was subsequently exhibited there for 8 weeks during the summer months. I wanted to capture the impression of the early morning mist on the salt marshes at dawn, but juxta-pose the elemental forces of the Spring tides and the constant flux of the area. The process consisted of visiting the Island on a number of occasions, creating sketches, preliminary studies and taking pictures with my SLR camera. Once my research was completed I headed back into my studio in Sheffield and worked on the piece on the floor to give a physical energy and the impression of being above the saltmarsh. I used very thin and also impasto oil paint application, physically walking around the painting, moving the paint around the canvas by turning the wooden canvas stretcher. Using large brushes for the impasto work. Signed on the front. Created with responsibly sourced quality canvas, wood, oil paints, mediums and varnishes. I also use an ECO environmentally friendly alternative to traditional turpentine. No need to frame, it is ready to hang and would suit a variety of diverse interior settings.
