About The Artwork

43.5 x 63cm. This abstract painting constitutes a diagram of the notion of sunspots, a natural phenomenon in which areas of the sun cool down, appearing as dark spots upon its surface. The idea of this process being a natural rhythm experienced repetitively over time is explored to an extent through my use of angled board, intended to evoke the idea of direction and movement - of sunspots appearing then disappearing as a natural process and pattern.

I use abstraction to interpret landscapes and environments, often using a range of mediums to produce dynamic, layered paintings which hold within them a sense of rhythm and flow. I am inspired by art’s potential to express ideas, atmosphere and emotion. I am interested in creating compositional balance by exploring contrasts of colour, form and texture, and enjoy developing and exploring new techniques and materials in my work. Please see my website www.rosalindsanderson.com for more information on my work. Awards: Awarded VACMA Emerging Artist Bursary, 2020. Selected Saatchi Art Rising Star, 2019.
