Envisioned as ‘Systems’, this series of large-scale paintings operate as experimental spaces for the combination of visual information within the confines of formalist painting. Compositions are outsourced initially to dictations from found-objects such as discarded toys, unwanted clothing, other waste products; detritus from the Anthropocene. This provides the loose but necessary structure to sustain a complex relationship between Painter and Painting; one that encapsulates insistence, yielding, loss, surprise, forgiveness, compromise. The process is one of exploration, submission and of inherent risk of failure. What materialises is an expansive landscape of collision, layered and intricate in harmony and dissonance.
