"Tamara Kamikaze" Painting

Eva Genoveva is a German figurative painter who has lived and worked in Munich as a freelance artist since 2010. Her works are held in private collections in Germany and abroad and have been publicly shown by institutions including Rouka Gallery, Bayerische Landesbank and the Bavarian Department of the Environment.

Her work explores female identity and the tension between outward roles and inner reality. Fragmentation, masking, confinement and isolation recur throughout her paintings, as do the ambiguities of exposure and concealment, submission and resistance. Her figures often inhabit psychologically charged situations that remain deliberately unresolved: vulnerability may coexist with self-possession, intimacy with estrangement, beauty with unease.

Genoveva works primarily in egg and casein tempera combined with oil on traditionally prepared wooden panels. Her practice is rooted in historical painting techniques: she prepares her own grounds and paints in successive layers, using tempera, imprimatura and oil glazes to build luminosity and depth. This deliberately slow process contrasts with the contemporary psychological character of her subjects.

Formally, her paintings combine precise figurative observation with selective distortion, fragmentation and areas of deliberate painterly roughness. Historical references – particularly the visual language of the 1920s to 1940s and echoes of Neue Sachlichkeit – coexist with an unmistakably contemporary perspective. Rather than constructing narratives with fixed meanings, Genoveva uses the human figure as a site of ambiguity, allowing seemingly contradictory readings to remain present at the same time.
