About The Artwork

I painted this one in November 2023 in my new studio in San Francisco. I had a sort of deadline because I wanted to finish it for open studios and therefor finished it much more quickly than most of my paintings. I think it has a unique feel and look. At the open studios I had a few people ask me how I painted it and I noticed a few other people leaning closer to the painting to see the detail. It's one of those paintings that looks good up close and from a distance, which is something I strive for with my larger paintings. The detail images show the texture created with the acrylic paints and my technique in using them. If you want to see this work in person and will be in San Francisco you can contact me throufg Saatchi and I can schedule a studio visit. If you want to do a virtual showing of the painting through an ap like whatsap I can do that also. The canvas will be taken off the stretcher bars and shipped to a buyer in a tube and then will need to be restretched on new stretcher bars not included in the sale.

I was born, raised and lived most of my life in the South Bay Area in Northern California. I majored in Art-Painting at San Jose State University in the late 1970s where I studied under Fred Spratt, Stuart Baron, and Randall Sadler among others. However, I consider myself mostly self taught in painting and in the knowledge of art history. At 12 years of age I saw a huge Van Gogh exhibit which had a big impact on me. Shortly thereafter I got into artists such as Picasso, Pollock, Miro, Klee, Goya, and the old masters. Although I have painted all my life I have only just recently begun to focus on my art career and consider myself a late emerging artist. My work is owned by collectors throughout the world. One of the things that sets me apart from other artists in my opinion is that I like to explore different styles, from figurative surrealism type works to abstract expressionism, lyrical abstraction to minimalism to what others have called maximalism. Picasso is probably my favorite artist of all time and one of the lessons I learned from him was that an artist shouldn't be limited to one style.
