"Here I am the servant of the Lord" was the answer to the question Mary gave to the Angel Gabriel when asked if she would be the mother of Jesus. Is Mary a role model or an impediment to the empowerment of women by accepting the subordinate role assigned her. This is the question I ask in my painting as the men whisper and cajole. The ornate brass frame and style relate to Renaissance paintings of the annunciation. The bird is a symbol of freedom and truth.
