About The Artwork
As with all his images of diving and swimming, Arno Bruse admires and celebrates the beauty of these sports. He wants to portray divers as an artistic, joyful and deeply aesthetic event. For him it is not just a sport or vacational activity but a passion and a lifestyle. The design of the swimsuit is inspired by the art of Piet Mondrian. It emphasizes the artistry of the jump and provides a refreshing contrast to the realistic interpretation of the athletic body. This reference to abstract art and a great artist deepens the symbolic nature of the work. In the works of this series, "The Art of Flying", Arno Bruse pays special attention to the moment of weightlessness inherent in each jump. That brief moment when one has the feeling of floating, flying and being detached from the earth and the world, until gravity sets in again and one plunges elegantly into the water.
