ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"This is a piece from the series “21st Century Fairy Tales for Women in Corporate”. The painting series is inspired by the following books written by women, for women in corporate: * Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg, 2013 * Lean Out, Marissa Orr, 2019 * The Balance Myth, Teresa Taylor, 2013 * Dare to Lead, Brene Brown, 2018 * The Art of War for Women, Chinning Chu based on Sun Tzu Strategies, 2007 After more than 25 years of experience in the corporate workforce, I attempt to mock these bestselling books with my art. I see these books at ‘best’ as conversation starters, but at ‘worst’ they are attempts to preach women how to act more like men to be successful in the corporate workforce. We still have one big question that awaits answers: In the 21st century corporate world, how can women be authentic and true to themselves, have a work-life balance, and still be successful and fulfilled in their work? My paintings try to capture the mood aligned with each book’s title and content. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed painting them!"

Gamze is a self-taught Turkish-American artist living in Seattle. Born in Turkey in 1969, Gamze moved to the US as a Fulbright Scholar and completed her PhD in Computer Engineering in Arizona. She spent more than 30 years working in the technology industry. While working full time and raising two kids, she found peace and joy in playing with colors. She has been an active artist since 1997. Gamze’s art is heavily impacted by her dysfunctional childhood, where struggles around her father’s mental illness were part of daily life. Her chronic depression has shaped who she is as an artist, mainly a modern figurative expressionist trying to capture universal thoughts and feelings in her simple portraits. Gamze's works have been exhibited in Seattle, New York, Paris, Madrid, Monaco, Milan, and Istanbul. Gamze is a resident artist at Studio 103 Gallery since July 2024 and owner of Gamze Seckin Art LLC since July 2021. For more info visit: ____
