“The Beauty of Appropriation”
Returning back to home, I found everything broken - canvases of my paintings - torn; Those, made in cardboards – smashed down. He destroyed my most precious things I had ever done... My ex-husband destructed this work of mine as well, which I loved most…I remember the day I made it – during my late pregnancy on my first baby-boy, who was born two days later to the incident. I had kept my torn paintings more than 10 years. Then I realized - I should have broken the silence, I got to know that the painting was my biggest protest against violence in family; Protest on behalf of all those women, who still are victims of violence in their families and they can’t speak up. The woman on the painting is a beauty, who is stamped with the mark of “owned”, violated and killed! Or violate her in the form of destroy the most precious things to her… It’s a beauty on the painting, which was unmercifully captured, misappropriated…
In Georgia it’s still a taboo various kinds of family violence and statistically, every third woman is violated. On my work there are hundreds of eyes reflected - is a shape of our society, to whom it’s still actual and important “what others will say” approach – the idea, set deeper in our bodies and souls, comes from inner - the destructed part of the painting and embraces the whole part of it; It is an opinion, consideration of which, willingly or unwillingly, still has to be taken into account…
