Water for Life and Development If the water in all its forms is abundant on our planet, fresh water is scarce and unevenly distributed: 40% of the world population suffering from water shortage. - This situation of imbalance joins defining my artistic project. Next my position, I have conceptualized the theme of water, developed below my signature, lyrical and expressive abstraction. At this disparity of resources, plus a growing demand mismatches between supply and demand. Water responds to our food needs, especially industrial and agricultural purposes (irrigation now absorbs 70% of global freshwater consumption). Water is a fundamental resource, evolution engine but also conflict. The water issue arises globally as the stakes are enormous in terms of supply, interdependence, resource distribution and management. The priority is to protect its quality and ensure equitable access to water for all. 50% of the planet do not have a water drainage network then we consume on average per day per 600 liters of water in the US, 200 in Europe and 150 on average in the world Access to safe water and sanitation is closely linked to public health problems in developing countries. 20% of the world population is still deprived of clean water supply while 50% receives no adequate sanitation. - The non-covered by the drinking water and sanitation areas are often in the poorest suburbs and slums. - Paradox: when these networks exist it is the poorest who pay the most expensive water. On site, the water supply is provided either by the introduction of standpipes or by a parallel distribution mainly carters crisscrossing neighborhoods. Equipment adapted to local situations and an education and training system to develop effective local professionals can be a first response. However, active and sustainable participation of the population is essential for local water management and monitoring of diseases pollution. - Optimal use of local human resources allows a lessening implementation costs and maintenance. The involvement of women is essential in monitoring these installers. - Responsible and mobilized villagers can move towards greater autonomy. The impact of water supply conditions on the achievements enables villages expanding to other local development programs.
