ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is an interpretation of Fahan, Co Donegal, Ireland standing on a hill overlooking the grassy bogs, the beach, and the tide as it drifts out to the North Atlantic. It evokes memories of cutting peat as a storm comes across the hills, and the smell of the fresh-cut turf and the salt air mixing. Intoxicating. Acrylic 24x24x1.5, satin varnish with isolation coat, painted sides

Born in the vibrant city of Dublin, Ireland, Aidan's artistic journey began at an early age, as he discovered and nurtured his innate talent for creative expression. It was evident from the start that he possessed a unique gift that would shape his life's purpose. Currently residing and working in the serene countryside of rural New Hampshire, with the majestic White Mountains as his backdrop, Aidan finds inspiration in the tranquility of nature and the rich heritage of his artistic lineage. His grandfather and great-grandfather, the late Lawrence Hicks and James Hicks, were celebrated cabinetmakers and designers, carrying forward a family tradition of craftsmanship that spans an impressive twelve generations of Royal coachbuilders. This artistic legacy flows through Aidan's veins, guiding his artistic sensibilities. In his formative years, Aidan was surrounded by a community of remarkable Irish artists, including the renowned maritime painter Ken King, the gifted Francis Fitzgerald, and his cousin Clare Henderson, an accomplished printmaker. Their influence and mentorship played a crucial role in shaping Aidan's artistic vision and nurturing his passion for creative exploration. Throughout his life, Aidan has embarked on a journey that led him to vibrant artistic hubs such as New York, London, San Diego, Chicago, and Newport. These diverse cultural landscapes offered him invaluable experiences and insights, which he brilliantly weaves into the tapestry of his art. However, the serene allure of New Hampshire eventually beckoned him, drawing him back to the embrace of nature and providing the perfect canvas for his artistic endeavors. As a visual artist, Aidan is a master of exploring the delicate interplay between visual planes and volume within the confines of a two-dimensional framework. His art is a captivating dance of reality and expressive abstraction, where he deftly intertwines elements of the tangible world with the ethereal, inviting viewers on a journey of introspection and discovery. Utilizing various mediums such as oils, acrylics, mixed media, and digital art, Aidan's artistic palette knows no bounds. In every stroke of color and every composition he creates, Aidan's art carries a cadence that speaks directly to the soul. His canvases are a symphony of emotions, vividly conveying both unexpected and profoundly introspective feelings.
