The Bright Lights of Lost Wages Painting

From the ‘Dice Permutations’ series, compositions are comprise of ‘dice-like’ motifs with finite palettes. The predefined 6-colour palette is considered to convey the narrative intended to excite the mind. An abstract, conceptual composition from a series exploring the inter-relationship between form, colour, and pattern. The composition is the exploration of distribution system over a defined image field. Part of an ongoing ‘Dicey Permutations’ series, using various finite palettes of colours, these compositions based on ‘dice-like’ motifs are derived/determined by algorithmic & computational techniques using random numbers to spatially distribute all spots. Bespoke programming is used to randomly distribute the 6 dice-like motif modules over the 9x9 grid and randomly allocate the 6-colour palette to every single spot individually. As gaming dice are associated with games of chance and probability, it is fitting that compositions based on ‘dice-like’ motifs use a numerical simulation of chance to spatially distribute the module elements and colour all the spots. Broadly my chosen abstract motifs seek to convey through aesthetics the human need to impose order on a universe determined by chaos and entropy. By employing the grid as a foundational structure, I explore underlying themes of order, chaos, abstraction, and objectivity, inviting viewers to engage in a contemplative dialogue with the artwork as a conduit for contemplation.
