About The Artwork

As a painter I have chosen for the abstract form, because it offers me the best tools to express myself. My work is intuitive and expressive. Movement, energy and gestures play an important role in my abstract artworks. Abstract expressionism, gestural abstraction define my work best. Themes that often return in my work are 'time' and 'nature' and how we as humans relate to them. My concern about the future of our planet stimulates me to make expressive pieces of art that reflect my inner thoughts and feelings on this issue. I am strongly influenced by abstract painters such as Willem De Kooning, Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell, Kazuo Shiraga, Asger Jorn. Painting is my core business and I favor working with acrylic and oil, but I also like to use all kinds of media like ink, graphite, charcoal, soil, paper, oil-bar, household.

The artworks that I have been accumulating arise from observing how the clouds alter their shapes with the wishes of the wind, forming infinite chains of unrepeatable images, although beyond abstract images, clouds also interest me as a source of analogy between their moods and their literary interpretations, which leads me to make artworks with a metaphorical and even satirical theme. The magic of their metamorphoses becomes for me, in an obsession with the observation of light, darkness, movement and everything that it’s transmuted, being an important reference for my compositions; it is the landscape, the keynote, the level of the scale, to interpret ambiguous symbols, androgynous figures, an image that observe us giving the sensation that they come from a remote order. This challenges me as an artist to try to achieve the beyond, for being an act of creation with my own terms and internal emotions. I like to build, narrow and prepare my own canvas, it is my first encounter with wood, canvas and the creative process. Acrylic is my main medium, although sometimes I use mixed media, for example, ink, oil, charcoal, oil pastels, pencils, airbrush and other materials. I start by attacking the blank canvas spontaneously, each step builds on the previous step, leaving room for chance. Using concepts typical of abstract expressionism, lyrical abstraction and informalism. Undertaking the pictorial act from attitude and matter as absolute action, giving importance to the resources of intuition, accident, the vitality of the expressive aspect, the suggestive capacity of the surface and the automatism to transmit the energy of the gesture, at the same time, I assimilate the way to accentuate the vaporous color fields, alternating and merging the blue, red, green, yellow, gray, black, white and violet ranges. Using the cold and warm colors with their respective complementary colors to create contrasts where the perspective through the colors stands out for its leading role in each of my artworks, accentuating the expressive intensity and the feeling of concern that emanate from the surface. Each artwork is unique, the creation and development of each one can be a slow process that usually lasts days, weeks and even in some cases up to months in the drying and technical process to bring the artwork to its maximum point of aesthetic expression.
