About The Artwork
The Burlesque Dancer is an exuberant and glamour filled portrait of International burlesque drag performer Jeff Van Phil. I have painted Jeff three times and could continue throughout my career. He is part of my ongoing Special People series. All the subjects of which are creatives. The Jeff Van Phil works all capture him mid theatrical. Images derived from photographs taken whilst he is on stage. Then my imagination and inspiration forms additional symbolism via birds, foliage. Here we see Jeff merge almost in the grand peacock feathers, cradling the birds head. Floating nearby is the bird of paradise.
