About The Artwork

Increasingly, technology shapes and distorts the way we view, respond to, and interact with our environment. My interest lies in examining the volume of visual information with which we are bombarded on a daily basis. This painting is rich with texture, compiled of painted and collaged elements stuck directly onto the canvas creating a visual and physical depth to the work. Figurative elements jostle with the decorative; depictions of large dogs fade and apparate amongst the roses and explosions in the background, and graphic icons sit alongside depictions of Police in High Vis jackets. By recording the stimuli to which we are exposed on a daily basis, and comparing this recognisable iconography, I make these turbulent paintings explore different perceptions of Britishness and ultimately present a cynical view of contemporary Britain. This is painting which consists of paint and painted collage in oil and acrylic on canvas, mounted on a wooden board panel with a thick 3.5cm deep profile, with the edges painted in a complimentary deep red/meganta colour.
