2020 is the year Tyson Fury, against all the odds, became the two time Heavyweight Champion of the World. He beat the nine year reigning champion Vladimir Klitchko in 2015 to get his first world championship. After achieving his childhood dream, you would think he would be the happiest man on the planet. However, Tyson Fury was severely suffering from depression. He didn’t care for his success or the money. He reached rock bottom and we quickly saw the heavyweight champion deteriorate. He began drinking and taking drugs. He reached 28 stone. In this madness, one day, he decided to end it all. In his Ferrari he was heading for a bridge with the intention to end it all. Tyson heard a voice that told him “No don’t do this, think about you kids and think about your family.” He pulled over and realised he needed medical help urgently. Then he started talking to doctors and seeking medical help. He battled back from his mental health issues. He stopped drinking. He stopped taking drugs and he started training again. He managed to lose all the weight he put on very quickly and had two fights before he and Deontay Wilder fought for the heavyweight title. It was a draw, it was a controversial decision but it was not a setback. They fought again In February 2020 and Tyson fury was in his very best condition, mentally and physically, he blew Deontay Wilder away and achieved the greatest comeback in sporting history. This painting is a response to the this comeback and the character of Tyson Fury. It stands as a symbol that anything is possible if you keep on fighting. It gives the audience strength, belief and motivation to achieve happiness, to be successful and to never be defeated.
