Art Description

Painting: Acrylic on Canvas.

The Troubles in Northern Ireland continue to throw up contentions despite the Good Friday Agreement of 1998. This particular incident took place in Loughinisisland on 18th June 1994, when a group of catholic football fans were watching the World Cup match between Northern Ireland and Italy on the tv in The Heights Bar. I chose the figurative work of Luc Tuymans on which to base my style of composition. I want the viewer to imagine approaching the front door of the pub, just as the gunmen did on that terrible night.
This painting has been done entirely by hand. The acrylic paint has been reworked several times in order to produce a hazy, edgy, uncertain atmosphere.
The work is signed on the back. The canvas is based on a wooden stretcher. It will be shipped ready to hang but unframed.
