The Lovers Painting

Original 10 x 8 inches I started painting this on August 30, 2024 with my group, Plein Air Ventura. It is always nice to paint with friends. It creates a nice relaxed painting session. I was in a state of high excitement as I love painting at night. There is something so invigorating about painting at the end of the day, probably because I am a night owl. I finished it back in the studio. I always do this, as I need to slow down and evaluate the painting to be sure it is finished and to color check it. I started this painting with a gessoed canvas board and then painted a layer of hot pink acrylic for the underpainting. On top of that I put down layers of oil pastel to where you can barely see the underpainting. I just wanted it peeking through in places, like the sky around the palm trees. It unifies the painting and creates a liveliness to it. The oil pastels are rich and creamy and create an impasto effect that I love as well as a matte sheen. The artwork is signed and dated on the back. It comes with a certificate of authenticity too. If you are ever interested in larger pieces, just ask and I will happily oblige. It won't be exactly the same but a variation.
