ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"The Orchards of Silicon Valley" is a 40"H x 60"W mixed media painting that speaks to the transformation of the landscape in the San Francisco Bay Area. Where orchards once characterized the landscape, buildings and housing rise up under California's blue skies and sunshine. Recent technology innovations have brought big corporations to the valley, replacing the orchards with buildings and businesses. Real estate prices surge ever upwards creating prosperity for some but increasing economic pressure and hardship for others. The perception is that the fruits of success are enjoyed by everyone who lives in Silicon Valley, but the reality is different. A great many have been pushed out of the valley by the sharp rise in the cost of living there. Inspired by the later works of Philip Guston.
