ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Connecting movement, color and mood, the artist departed from the detailed pointillist technique to what he calls the 'loose' dots. Perhaps the joining of the physicality with the canvas originates from the artist's background in boxing, motocross, and professional classical ballet. The layers of paint, the depth of colors, and the variations in application, create dynamic and alluring abstractions. Each piece capturing the emotion of that moment in time in his continuous search for happiness.

As an artist, I have drawn inspiration from abstract expressionism. My work is entirely unique to my hand, infused with my own distinct perspective and life experiences. Growing up in an isolated mining town in Broken Hill, Australia, I was attracted to the arts, leading to careers as a professional ballet dancer, an actor, and a singer-songwriter, which has informed my approach to art. With the canvas flat on the ground, it allows me to become connected with the work and to move in a way that feels like a dance. I use a drip technique with bold colors to create dynamic and spirited compositions. The brighter colors hide the darker hues underneath, representing both my personal struggles and my search for happiness. My artwork is a personal take on the abstract expressionist style, combining personal experiences with the use of movement and gesture, similar to performance art. My background in other fields like carpentry and motocross instills a sense of craftsmanship and discipline, while acting and music allow me to express complex emotions and explore creative avenues. My experience in these various fields has given me a keen sense of movement, emotion, and storytelling, all of which inform my artwork. I also previously worked in the ‘abstract pointillism’ style, which involves intricate patterns of vibrant colors with hidden messages of love, life, and family, reminiscent of Aboriginal art from Australia. My artwork is a continuation of a long tradition of artists who have used personal experiences as inspiration for their work and seeks to find beauty in the midst of life's difficulties. Stephen is fortunate to find his works in the homes of  avid art collectors, where his work is in the company of the following renowned artists: Pierre Alechinsky.   Jean-Michel Basquiat  Jake Berthot Damien Hirst  Mr. Brainwash Alexander Liberman Roy Lichtenstein Peter Lik.  Henri Matisse Harvey Quaytman Susan Rothenberg Richard Serra Yayoi Kusama
