The Red Thread of Fate #1 Painting

In Ancient East Asian philosophy everyone in the world has a soulmate, and everyone is connected to that soulmate by a length of invisible red thread. Whoever is at the end of your thread, which is often tied around the little finger, is the one you are destined to meet and fall in love with. Though the thread may tangle and wear thin over time, it will never break, and the soulmates’ bond will remain strong and steadfast their whole lives. Jess Distill’s Red Thread of Fate series uses acrylic paint, wool and embroidery thread on large scale canvases to explore the idea of fated relationships and human connection. Each 90x65cm canvas is connected by a red thread that can be adjusted at the back of the canvas to allow the owner to shorten or lengthen it, creating a bigger or smaller gap between each canvas and display the piece in any way and any space
