"The Scream" Painting

I am Sandro Lopes, a self-taught visual artist and designer from Cape Verde, based in Lyon, France. My work explores identity, memory and cultural heritage through a language that blends abstraction and figuration in a resolutely contemporary expression. Born in 1996 in Praia, Cape Verde, I have developed my practice across painting, sculpture, urban murals, digital arts, graphic design and fashion. My artistic approach reflects themes of resilience and personal introspection, while engaging with broader social and collective narratives. I began my career in 2018 with the group exhibition Kabu Verdi Contemporâneo, in Praia. In 2019, I represented Cape Verde at the IX Biennial of Young Creators of the CPLP, in Luanda. In 2021, I held my first solo exhibition, Reflex D'nha Alma (Reflections of My Soul), at the Palais de la Culture Ildo Lobo, in Praia. In 2022, I participated in the Miami Artweeks – ArtBoxy Project, in the United States, further expanding my international presence. I am currently based in Lyon, where I continue to develop my work between artistic creation and design. For me, art is more than just a form of visual expression, it is a tool for introspection, identity, and social dialogue. Through my work, I seek to transform personal experiences, emotions, and cultural heritage into images that provoke reflection and connection.
