Chinese ink, watercolor, acrylic, and resin. Framed in raw, wood box frame. A dual self-portrait expressing two sides of the artist. The most apparent one in the foreground expresses apprehension and consciousness of the viewer's gaze, and the more subtle underlying one expressing disinterest and disregard. This is an experimental piece in which I painted on both the front and back of the watercolor paper.

Lisa Krannichfeld was born and raised in Little Rock, AR in an interesting cultural mix of a Chinese family living in the American South. Her experiences growing up in these two intermixing cultures and their traditions have greatly influenced her work, which primarily focuses on the woman as its subject. Her expressive portraits refute the traditional portrayal of women being passive subjects to gaze upon, evident in their confrontational, and at times defiant expressions. Breaking traditions further, Lisa often uses traditional Chinese ink and watercolor materials in a nontraditional uncontrolled, free-flowing way often mixed with unconventional materials. Lisa's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications nationally and internationally including shows across the United States, Asia, Australia, and Europe. In 2018 her work was chosen as the grand award winner in the 60th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. In 2017 she won the grand award at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center Juried Exhibition, and Best in Show at the 2017 Magic City Art Connection Art Fair in Birmingham, AL. She has been named “One To Watch” in Saatchi Art Magazine, a “Woman to Watch” by Soiree` Magazine in her home state of Arkansas, and has had work featured in Anthropologie. Her work is included in several private and corporate collections throughout the world.
