As an artist, I have faced a lot of talks from people concerning nudity, The argument of whether it is a Proliferation of Pornography or not, A virtue or vice, An art or pornography, whether it is ok or not. One of the pertinent problems which artists face today in our society on the nude painting is the negative impression associated with the painting of female nude figures. Some painting students consider female nude painting as immoral and pornographic. This may be due to their religious background, for instance, some are Christians, Moslems, and Traditional believers. The study employed the qualitative method of research with purposive sampling technique and simple random sampling. Interview and questionnaire were also used to collect the necessary data for the study. This problem is also faced by the models, a lot still filled with confusion of whether they should do it or not, is it acceptable or not, what would people think, Yes or no, Not yet, not No. Some would like to be on the safe side and not be completely explicit with it thereby making some areas covered as seen and revealing the other but this doesn't allow the proper and complete anatomy to be considered. Nudity is a constant in our media today, from billboards to commercials to modern art. But it wasn’t always like that. Joe Hedges, an assistant professor of painting and intermedia in WSU’s fine arts department, said it is fascinating to think about how cultural norms surrounding nudity have changed throughout the years. Hedges said Michelangelo’s painting in the Sistine Chapel is among the most famous examples of nude paintings. This is something that even today would not go over very well in many churches. “It’s in a church [and] sometimes I have to remind myself, ‘this is several hundred years ago and somebody decided to paint all the walls of the church with nude bodies,’ ” Hedges said. He said people choose to paint and sculpt nude figures for a variety of reasons. The artist’s choice to show a subject wearing clothes, whether it is a contemporary coat or hat, places the subject at a particular time and place. “Sometimes painting a nude figure is as simple as, you want that painting to feel timeless,” Hedges said.
