About The Artwork

The main theme of the painting is a wall located in the center of Paphos city, hidden from the public view. It’s surrounded by newest buildings and is very difficult to get the attention of the passengers. The marks of time are very obvious on the wall, showing that it has been left and ignored. All of these effects contributed to become the wall a piece of art. The metal nails in the wall are looking like they hurt it and the rust spreads like a bleeding. The blue window has bended from the wall’s pressure. The only life indication of the whole scene is a small plant trying to survive. I used strong brushes and paint splashes to express the feelings of sadness and despair for something that has been left and it’s been destroyed.

I was born on the 22nd June 1969. As a child I have always taken solitude within my drawings therefore art has become a very important part of my life. At six years old I finished my first portrait of my grandmother while knitting during a cold winter night. I took up a correspondence course in Art which lasted for two years. After these courses I continued my studies in art in the art workshop of D.E.P.K.A. from 1992 to 1994, during which time my mentor and guide for the workshops, was the Greek painter and artist Paulina Dogou Kazantzidou. I studied and learnt a lot about famous Greek artist and painters but for me the most impressive artist whose work marked my career were the works of Panayiotis Tetsis, although I have tried to leave my own personal mark within my work. I took part in many exhibitions as part of a group and on my own in both Greece and Cyprus and have been drawing and painting on a professional level since 1993. My most recent work is based on the theme “The beauty of the old Cypriot Architecture”, emphasizing on old periods of skilled craftsmanship from another era filled with the will power of hard work. I feel that someone has to be the voice these surroundings and therefore take it upon myself to express this need through my art. During the last few years I have been using acrylics, ink and watercolours, while practicing a combination of techniques and methods so that I can give the right texture to the hard and sometimes rough surface which I like to obtain. This is evident in my last work.
