Things Just Left - Triptych 30 x 30 each Painting

Primarily, I am self taught. Taking risks, being open, being curious and relentlessly persistent are the qualities which have fostered my personal evolution and development of my work. Over the course of several years I have discovered two very distinct styles and approaches to artmaking. I love both equally and especially like being able to switch back and forth as one is always a nice reprieve from the other. The Pareto Principle Approach Entering a trance like state of mind I engage in the act of "automatism". It all happens very fast, it is emotional and intense and the canvas is covered quickly. This is the 20% 80% is where I stand back and apply logic and analyze the composition. This is where I can make it or break it. My biggest challenge is not to dilute the potency of the 20%. It is a push and pull process. Its All About Texture: My textured pieces are much more methodical and I work patiently, mixing and layering a variety of mediums, paint and materials to achieve a beautiful and interesting aesthetic. It is an exciting process which allows for the materials and mediums to react t0 each other in unpredictable ways. Sometimes the results are disappointing and then it becomes a process of repetition and persistence.The random results and discoveries are the greatest reward when something beautiful and completely unexpected happen.
