About The Artwork

Thinking of Agnes III continues my journey of creating complexity in simplicity. This is part of a group of paintings I've made, which were inspired by the amazing Agnes Martin. Framed a smooth white wood floater frame, which measures 33.5x33.5x2 inches, the painting itself is 32x32 inches. It is finished with several coats of a professional permanent satin/matte varnish. Despite their names, my art is nonobjective. I am inspired by texture, happenstance and the patina of worn surfaces; natural and manmade. I see grace and nostalgia in their visual history. I think this sensitivity allows me to approach my work with an uninhibited perspective on aesthetics, using color and visual texture as the primary elements in my geometric compositions. Each painting takes me on its own journey in which I intuitively listen and respond, incorporating of a variety of techniques and countless layers of acrylic and mixed media, constantly accumulating and reducing the applied materials until each piece finds its own end.

I love simple design and enjoy exploring the spectacle of simplicity. Even the simplest of things can speak with substance, depth and feeling. So much satisfaction comes from constructing my unique surfaces of implied texture and patina, which ultimately draw the viewer in to visit, examine and explore.

My works are personal sanctuaries, influenced by the needful refuge that I find in music and lyric. These are the places I experience while I vanish under the cloak of music.
