ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"This Wild and Rugged Moor" takes you walking through the beautiful warm colours of the moors in Summer capturing the untamed spirit of nature. Living in the Peak District this is one of my regular haunts where I see the sky lark ascending, hear the curlew and the cry of lapwings. It's an experience of freedom and boundless energy with its wild essence, a hazy sky, vibrant hues and tones of purple, green and red in the wild bracken. Your eye will wander over the textures in the foreground to the delicate clouds in the distance. I aim to evoke the wild heart of the moor, alive with colour and movement. An original artwork, one of a kind, the painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas, the sides are painted white. I use impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife, which creates a contemporary painting, lying somewhere between abstraction and realism. A frame is not needed and it is ready to hang.

Working from observation of nature Amanda gathers visual information with a sketchbook or camera and often begins a canvas en plein air, finishing these preliminary pieces in her studio. Working expressively in acrylics or oils, with a palette knife and other mark making techniques, she works layer upon layer until the painting reaches a natural conclusion forming paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. “Painting is a response to the beautiful landscape around me, the experience of being in the place is as much an important part of the process as drawing. I attempt to capture the spirit of the land and that quiet sense of tranquillity that coexists with a closeness to the natural world. I am moved by dramatic light sweeping over the rugged elements chased by clouds and the timeless changing sea when visiting the coast. I have a passion for expressing nature in bright vivid colours and nothing gives me more pleasure than when people say they love their painting.” Amanda exhibits widely and her paintings have found homes with private collectors in the UK, America, Asia and Europe. She is represented by several galleries in the UK.
