ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"Those Were Yesterdays feelings" is part of an on-going exploration of popular culture, it's development and the visual language it uses. Inspired by Instagram posts; the painting is based on an AI generated portrait created by studying Instagram accounts and turning the images on them into AI prompts. The text is based on captions from posts and the colour pallet a response to the image generated and the graphics that were added. The painting starts as an acrylic underpainting to which graphics are added with acrylic and spray paint. The portrait is then completed in oil paint. The work celebrates a long standing love of fashion imagery and photography and represents a development of that language as society moves increasingly towards of state of self promotion and documentation. The work is not a criticism of contemporary culture but a celebration of it that stems from a long standing love all things transient and temporary. Oil, acyclic and spray paint on canvas.
