Kim sees her work as a mix of expressionism and impressionism, getting many of her ideas for paintings from dreams and meditations. She thinks of artwork as a form of visual healing and feels her paintings come from an intuitive process. Her oil/mixed media paintings are very symbolic and spiritually based. Kim practices a number of different meditation disciplines and feels that these practices form the foundation for much of her work on canvas. Her works on paper are watercolor/mixed media and lean towards social and environmental issues, but she also enjoys floral works and still life paintings. There is a lot of line work and detail that is added using pen and ink. She considers them paintings, but feels they also qualify as drawings. She enjoys using animals as stand ins for humans in her paintings, sometimes to make a political statement, sometimes in a humorous way. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1952 and has four grown children. Kim has lived in Minnesota and Arizona in the U.S. and has had work in galleries in both states. She started painting in her teen years, teaching herself the multi media processes she uses.
