Thursday Afternoon on 5th Street Painting

I often find myself walking the streets of my hometown, camera in hand, looking for shapes and colors to capture for later use in paintings. Nicknamed by some, “The Athens of the Prairie,” Columbus, Indiana lists in the top ten of cities in the US for architectural design. So, there are plenty of interesting geometric tidbits to collect. Nonetheless, I always find myself on 5th street taking in this building. The Irwin Block building is reminiscent of buildings in San Francisco and elsewhere, but it inexplicably takes me back to my youth in Michigan. It transports me. I can almost hear the seagulls and feel the breeze from Little Traverse Bay. This painting is painted on a gallery wrapped canvas. The painted surface extends around the sides of the painting. There is no need to frame it, unless of course you want to.
