Carmen gathers earths that she mainly sources from nature and she makes mortars. From rocks to river sands, all are painting materials. Her practice is an ongoing dialogue with those materials. Exhibiting landscapes and abstracted patterns of nature. Carmen was born in Spain and though Scotland is home for the last 23 years, she and her family move between the two annually, like a wee nomadic tribe. The process of making mortars and experimenting is present daily in both countries, here she works on her paintings and there she restores a Moorish ruin!
